33 things you didn’t know about me

Things you don’t know about me:

1. I put off writing #1 until last because I felt like the first thing should be something impressive. Now I just want to get this published, so I’ll fill it in with the first thing that comes to mind.

2. I like cookies. A lot. You don’t have to know me long in person to find this out, but I suspect it comes

3. My husband and I dated for 6.5 years before we got married.

4. I am/was a pretty serious Diet Coke junkie, but I’m trying to get down to a normal(-ish) amount.

5. I went through a phase in high school and college where I tried to brush my teeth in unusual places, so I’ve brushed them at the top of the Eiffel Tower, inside Westminster Abbey, on the Golden Gate Bridge, on top of a mountain…

6. I love to travel and have done kind of a lot of it.

7. I have a lifetime goal to visit all 50 states. So far I’ve been to 38.

8. I became a vegetarian when I was 12, but

9. I started eating fish again when I was 21, but

10. I’ve mostly stopped eating it and am back to total vegetarianism now. Fish is reserved for like, eating in a restaurant with the in-laws and having to either eat fish or eat nothing and be an obnoxious vegetarian.

11. I was a swimmer in high school.

12. My middle name is my mom’s last name.

13. I used to have a cat named after Madeleine Albright.

14. I was (and still am) a Girl Scout.

15. I worked at Girl Scout camp for four summers after being a camper for eight.

16. Working at camp taught me a whooole lot of kid-appropriate songs that I use in storytime when they fit the theme. Ducks? I know five songs about ducks! Frogs? Seven!

17. I’ve always been a reader, but librarian-ing has taken it to a whole new level.

18. I’m terrible at Scrabble, because I’m always trying to save up to spell something impressive and do a whole lot of “an” and “ox” and “so” things in the mean time.

19. I like to play Nintendo.

20. But I love board games.

21. I read zines but am too chicken to write one.

22. Too chicken, and too lazy.

23. My first car was a 1986 Honda Civic called Old Grey Mare, because she was old, grey, and she ain’t what she used to be.

24. My second, current car is a 1998 Civic called Darth Vader.

25. I like Star Wars, but only the original three. Okay, and I thought Revenge of the Sith was good, too.

26. I wanted to leave during Attack of the Clones, but didn’t because a) my friend had the keys and b) I figured I couldn’t complain about it if I hadn’t seen the whole thing.

27. My next car will be a hybrid.

28. Unless electric cars are available by then.

29. My husband and I got married by a friend who got ordained on the internet.

30. I watch a lot of “Friends.” If you do, too, you’ll see how this is related to #29.

32. Other t.v. shows I have all the box sets of: Scrubs, Arrested Development.
